Europe’s largest automaker, Volkswagen AG (VOW), has finalized plans to build two electric vehicles models. VW counts on partners in China to accomplish the project that will kick start in 2013. The two projects have each created a model EV and will introduce test fleets next year, said Neumann, Chief Executive Officer and President of the Wolfsburg, Germany-based automaker’s China unit. He also added that VW plans to double the production capacity by 2015 and aims to have 10,000 EVs in the country by 2018 to become the number 1 automaker in the world eventually.

The VW models will be designed to suffice the demand for less polluting models and may have a range of 100 kilometres to 200 kilometres, said Karl-Thomas Neumann. He also mentioned that the models need some more time to develop and get better. VW currently develops cars and sport-utility vehicles in China by partnering with SAIC Motor Corp. and China FAW Group Corp. VW also markets Audi, Skoda, and Bentley in China, the world’s largest auto market.
