Top Priority is Electricity – Uganda

The President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni stressed that the top priority for Uganda is affordable electricity that will lead to development in the industrial and other sectors of the economy. To reach closer to this goal, the government welcomes Public-Private Partnerships in the energy sector.

The President met George Percy, the Managing Director of Gulf Geothermal Ltd. It is a UK based company. Mr. Percy stated his company’s interest in exploring and investing in geothermal exploration and electricity production in Uganda.

Gulf geothermal Ltd. has a lot of experience in the energy sector and has successfully undertaken completed various projects in North East England and along the East African rift valley. It showed a keen interest in tapping Uganda’s huge geothermal energy potential. This vision would provide Uganda with cheap and affordable electricity.
