We had Segways, then we had nimble electric skateboards followed by self balancing hover boards. Now check this out – a portable electric vehicle called “Walk Car” that’s small, light and very easy to use.
Created by 26-year old engineer Kuniako Saito and his team at Cocoa Motors, the Walk Car which is the size of a laptop and echoes a skateboard is small enough to be carried in a bag. It is powered by a lithium battery that takes three hours to charge.
The Walk Car weighs between two and three kilograms depending on whether it is an indoor or outdoor variety. It is made from lightweight aluminium board, and can take loads of up to 120kg.
Besides individual travel, the slender yet powerful vehicle has many other uses such as help push people on wheelchairs. While travelling on a Walk Car, there is no need to find a parking space because you can carry it in a small bag.
Saito says the Walk Car reaches top speeds of 10 kilometers per hour, for distances of up to 12 kilometers. Standing on it will automatically start the vehicle while to change the direction the user has shift his/her weight. To stop the vehicle, simply step off the vehicle.
The innovative skateboard is tagged at around 100,000 Japanese Yen (approx. $800 USD). Shipping is expected to begin by spring 2016.
