It has been a strong rumour since the year 2014 that Apple is into making of an Electric car (iCar) and further vouched by many that CEO Tim Cook has approved it in late 2014. The same is strongly supported by statements from the CEO about the car industry, such as “It would seem like there will be massive change in that industry, massive change. You may not agree with that. That’s what I think…..”.
It is believed that this open secret Electric car project named as “Titan” has taken off and is likely to unveil the first unit by 2019. Apple is continuing to hire top brasses from the automobile industry. It is said that they have already hired top engineering professionals from Tesla Motors on their payroll.
But this project is having a bumpy road. As few of Apple’s top executives are on their way out from the project, Steve Zadesky, who is heading up the Project Titan, is likely to move out. Also it is reported by Handelsblatt, a German news site that, “talks with German auto-makers BMW and Daimler about working on an Apple car have broken down amid the concerns and fears that Apple would dominate the relationship”. Also, it is said that the important reason these auto giants having refused tie up with Apple, is they are in a hurry to launch their own electric cars in the market soon.
Apple would not like to go all on its own in this “Titan Project”, they are in talks with Magna International, a global auto supplier in Canada, which also has expertise in assembly lines. Apple is also said to be in talks with Bosch, Continental and Osram and a few other European suppliers. A German News paper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports “a team of Apple engineers is engaged in research and development of the car project in Berlin”.
