Electric car: The environment's best friend

The depleting oil reserves and the rising demand for fuel, has prompted the need for alternative and renewable energy. As fuel and oil prices continue to soar, the demand for electric cars will increase in proportion. Thus, investing in electric car companies is a profitable venture and also a hedge against the current fuel prices.

How it works:
Electric cars have different engines as compared to normal cars which work on gasoline-powered internal combustion engines. These cars operate on electric motors powered by batteries. The charging of a car battery depends on the efficiency of an electric car. On an average, mileage of an electric car may vary from 50 to 250 miles. At present, the production of electric cars has touched the sky. This is a huge step to reduce environment pollution.

How it saves money:
An electric car is known as 'the best green car for fuel efficiency'. According to the surveys, one has to spend around 12 cents per mile in gasoline- powered vehicle while electric car only involves around two cents per mile. Hence, it is cost effective and saves lots of money.

How it's an eco-friendly car:
Electric cars are completely eco-friendly, if the batteries get power by a nuclear, hydroelectric or solar power source. On the other hand if the power company uses another alternative source such as coal to power the batteries of an electric car, it can create indirect environmental pollution.

Tips to maintain electric cars:

  • Keep the batteries in a custom made battery box. This box must include a fan to ensure that the batteries should stay well-ventilated. These batteries produce harmful gases while charging. Don't let the batteries come in contact with any accumulation.
  • Wear a goggle and protective covers while handling a battery. Try to prevent chances of eye injury which occurs because of chemicals, particularly the battery acid.
  • Always pre-arrange everything before working on an electric car battery. A smoker must keep a portable fire-extinguisher to handle any kind of mishap.
  • Don't remove a cap of the battery while charging. This may cause emission of more hazardous gases.
  • For safety and protection, one should always cover the vent area of the batteries with a wet cloth. This will prevent sparking which occurs because of the escaping gases.
  • Turn off the charger after use. This will prevent chances of electric sparks.
  • Maintain a history of battery uses which will specify records of charging the battery at a specific time and at a specific rate.
  • Change the old battery if it doesn't perform well. Install a new battery to enhance performance of an electric car.
